Mold in your home can present a serious health threat to you and your family. If you suspect that you have a mold problem in your home, having a mold inspection done by a qualified mold inspector is critical.

Mold Inspections

If you think you have mold in your home, a mold remediation company can come and do a mold inspection for you and determine if you have mold that could present a problem. While mold of any kind is not good, some molds can cause extreme health problems and need removing as soon as they are discovered.

The mold inspection will typically be handled by a certified inspector from the mold removal company because they are trained to recognize the type of mold and where to look for it. If there is mold in the home, a full inspection of the house will uncover it, and the inspector can make recommendations about how to deal with it for you.

Where to Look For Mold

One of the most common places to find mold in your home is the bathroom. Mold thrives in environments where water is present, and the area around the bathtub or shower, the toilet, and the sink are all perfect for mold to grow. Water can seep behind tiles or into tight spaces that you can't see well, and over time, the mold will start to grow there.

You may also find mold growing in areas around the hot water tank, the washer machine, or the boiler if you have one in your home. Anywhere the presence of moisture and heat coexist, and there is little light, is the perfect place for mold to thrive and grow. Often the mold grows unseen for a long time unless you are looking for it and can clean it off the surfaces as soon as it starts developing.

Mold can grow in other parts of the home, but those areas with water and dark areas are the most common. Regular cleaning and inspection of the areas that hold the highest potential for the mold is the best way to combat it in your home.

Mold Remediation

If mold is discovered in large amounts in your home, you may need to have a mold remediation contractor remove the mold for you. The contractor will use safety equipment to protect themself and then properly dispose of the mold for you. They can also treat the home with a fungicide that will help prevent the mold from returning.

If you have water leaks that contribute to the mold growth, it is best to wait until the mold is gone and repair the leaks, so you are not working around the mold or breathing the spores.
